Student experiences at Marist College

Before I chose a university I made the decision to study fashion. When I did my research, I found Marist College has a great fashion program and a good location near New York City. I have volunteered at New York Fashion Week and even participated in the “Marist in Paris” program during winter break. I learned about French culture and fashion, which is very helpful for my studies and career.

Marist College was exactly what I wanted. Coming from Nigeria, and being far away from home, I knew I needed an institution small enough that I would not feel lost. Plus, Marist has amazing opportunities, internship programs, and study abroad programs.

I had only been at Marist College for 1 semester when I received a Rising Star Award, recognizing me for my talents and contributions to the Marist Singers. I felt so honored, and that I have a lot to contribute to Marist.

I chose Marist College because it is a small school, where students can build close relationships with their professors. The faculty have time to mentor students and are available when they need extra help in their classes.

University location: Poughkeepsie, New York

Marist College’s Poughkeepsie (puh·KIP·see), New York location places it in the heart of the Hudson Valley, a region of incredible natural beauty. The setting has so inspired landscape painters that it fostered an American art movement, the Hudson River School. The Valley’s charming towns, international art spaces, local farm-to-table restaurants, and outdoor recreation spots make it a top travel destination.

At Marist, students appreciate the close community created by its small campus, and admire the beauty of its Hudson River views. Marist students also take advantage of nearby New York City’s offerings, including the College’s own Marist in Manhattan internship program.
